Bishop Brothers Engineering Ltd commenced operations in Port Moresby in 1972. Branches have since been established in Lae, Mt Hagen, Kimbe, Rabaul, Vanimo, Porgera, Madang and now Honiara in the Solomon Islands.

Port Moresby

Bishop Brothers Industrial Sales was formed to import tools, equipment and other maintenance products for the thriving machine shop. It has expanded to become the largest Papua New Guinea supplier of industrial and engineering goods to trade and industry. With its eight Industrial Sales outlets in PNG, Bishop Brothers is able to supply all government departments, manufacturing industries, logging companies, mines and primary industries throughout the nation. A large warehouse and showroom to accommodate the rapid expansion of the business was constructed in Port Moresby in 2005 and another is under construction in Lae, due to be completed in 2007.

Lae

Bishop Brothers Lae branch was opened in 1985. Recent finds of copper, gold and other minerals in the vicinity will result in increased activitiy in this branch in the immediate future. The branch works in close liaison with its customers to provide essential bearings and engineering supplies needed to service their industry. The following industries are all located in and around the busy industrial city of Lae and form part of our extensive customer base.

Sugar Mills, Saw Mills, Oil Palm Mills, Bakeries, Breweries, Soft Drink Producers, Earth Movers, Government Authorities, Oil Companies, Gold and Copper Mines, Exploration Companies & Plantations.

Mt Hagen

The coffee and tea industries' success generated the climate in 1986 to open an Industrial Sales outlet in Mt Hagen. Major gold mining and oil drilling activity now take place around Mt Hagen and we are constantly improving our stock holding to cater for this growth market. The cyclical nature of the traditional agriculture based economy is now well balanced with the new mining and exploration business being generated. With the support of our Port Moresby and Lae operations we are able to react promptly to changes in demand in this changing environment.

Kimbe

In 1987 a Bishop Brothers branch was opened to service the development of primary industry in the area. Kimbe is primarily an agricultural area growing oil palm for export. Bishop Brothers company provides services to the mills that extract palm oil. As the logging industry in the area expands we are adjusting our stock-holding accordingly to cater to this industry. Current exploration and recent finds of gold may result in mining development in the area. Bishop Brothers would be able to react quickly to support this industry as a result of our experience in Lae, Port Moresby and Porgera..

Vanimo

The logging industry in Papua New Guinea has shown dramatic growth in recent years. The nature of the industry means that their operations are often located far from major cities and suffer from lack of infrastructure. A Bishop Brothers depot was opened in Vanimo to specifically service logging customers in the area. This depot is manned by dedicated staff and is stocked with product unique to the timber industry. This focus on customers' specific needs is an indication of the specialist service the company aims to provide. Bishop Brothers is proud of its training programme and a national manager has been appointed to the Vanimo depot.

Rabaul

Bishop Brothers has re-established operations in Rabaul town following the 1994 Volcanic eruption. The province is continuing to undergo necessary replacement to infrastructure and industry. Agriculture is the main source of income for Rabaul with Copra in particular an important commodity. Gold has been discovered in the area and mining is due to start in 2006.

Madang

A new outlet was opened in Madang in 1997 to cater to the local logging and manufacturing industry. It is now an important supplier to these industries of engineering supplies and hydraulics. The development of large nickel resource is planned for 2007 and thus the branch is well placed to supply this new mine.

Porgera

This branch is a dedicated hydraulic hose supplier to the large Porgera Gold Mine. Opened in 1990 as a specialist hydraulics outlet it is used as a training ground for hydraulics staff in all other branches. The mine has recently extended its life for another 10 years, giving this branch an opportunity to continue to grow.

Solomon Islands

Our first Solomon Islands branch opened its doors for business in 2005. The re-development of a defunct gold mine and the oil palm industry in Honiara will be supported by this new branch.
